Structure (outline) of TFT-LCD module
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| TFT * | Thin film
transistor A transistor formed on a thin film on a substrate such as glass. Used in the active matrix of liquid crystal, etc., as a 3-pin active element. |
| Liquid crystal * |
|
| Liquid crystal display module* | A module with a liquid crystal panel incorporating (at least) a driver and that displays information using light modulation. May also include components such as a backlight and base. |
| Polarizer * | An optical material with a function that enables the transmission of only a specific polarized light element from the incident light. |
| Diffusing plate * | An optical material used to scatter the light from light source to enable even irradiation on the display panel. |
| Light guide plate * | A structural component used to guide and disperse the light from the light source. A transparent flat plate with a dispersion pattern on the back is usually used for edge-light type backlights. |
| Lens sheet (condenser) | Condenses the light emitted from the light guide plate and diffusing plate through an arrangement of numerous minute prisms in order to improve the luminance on the display surface. |
| Reflector * | An optical material used to reflect and effectively utilize the light from the backlight. |
| Liquid crystal display panel* | A panel sandwiched between at least two substrates and filled with a liquid crystal substance at intervals of several micrometers. The alignment of the liquid crystal substance in this panel is controlled by external signals and information is displayed by modulating the light. |
| Backlight | A light source system that irradiates the display surface evenly from the back. |
